Alex Keller's College Football Rankings 10/22

I was very tempted to put Oregon or Florida at #1, but Alabama's resounding win over Tennessee keeps the champs on top. Besides, everyone would (accurately) say I was biased if I did that. Without further ado, here is this week's top 25.

1. Alabama 7-0 Passed their first real test (not counting Michigan), with a huge road win over an underrated Tennessee team. AJ McCarron is quietly a huge reason that this team is where it is.

2. Oregon 7-0 Continued to dominate anyone who lines up against them. Arizona State was supposed to be a tough opponent (as were Arizona and Washington) and Oregon made that claim laughable.

3. Florida 7-0 This team is for real. An amazingly complete performance by a stalwart defense, a very good special teams, and an efficient offense shows that this is a real contender.

4. Kansas St. 7-0 (see Florida) While West Virginia is not South Carolina, still a strong performance showing that the Wildcats belong among the elite.

5. Notre Dame 7-0 The Irish's body of work warrants it's place in the top five, but they're going to have to step it up big time if they want to be undefeated at this time next week. Oklahoma looms.

6. LSU 6-1 The Tigers kept their title hopes alive with a close victory over A&M. Offense still looks suspect and the schedule doesn't get any easier.

7. Oregon St. 6-0 Though they may not have all the flashiness of a typical top 10 team, the Beavers just keep winning, and could make for a real interesting Civil War come season's end.

8. Oklahoma 5-1 The Sooners have looked scary ever since the loss to K-State. Watch out Notre Dame.

9. USC 6-1 The Trojans are slowly getting back into the picture, though the big test will come against Oregon in a few weeks.

10. Mississippi St. 7-0 Though largely untested, 7-0 in the SEC warrants a top 10 spot. It gets much tougher from here.

11. Ohio St. 8-0 No bowl eligibility=no analysis

12. Florida St. 7-1 Held off a hungry Miami team, and while out of the title picture for now, still seem to be the class of the ACC.

13. Texas Tech 6-1 A largely underrated one loss team after annihilating an undefeated West Virginia and gritting one out against a good TCU team. Could make some noise the rest of the way.

14. Georgia 6-1 Still with an outside title shot, the Dawgs need to be on their game this week against Florida after almost losing to a bad Kentucky team.

15. Clemson 6-1 Hasn't tripped up since the Florida St. loss, and could still be in line for an at large BCS berth regardless of whether or not FSU falters again.

16. Rutgers 7-0 Got a bit of a scare early against Temple, but pulled away late to keep the undefeated showdown against Louisville a possibility.

17. Louisville 7-0 (See Rutgers) Game against USF came down to the wire, but able to escape with the W.

18. South Carolina 6-2 In what was thought to be their year, the Cocks have disappointed in the past few weeks. Still no shame in losing to LSU and Florida.

19. Michigan 5-2 Though the victory over Sparty was less than impressive, losses to Bama and Notre Dame aren't a terrible thing. Still may smell roses.

20. Texas A&M 5-2 Could've had the game against LSU at multiple times, but gave it away with turnovers. Still not a bad showing for a first year SEC team.

21. Stanford 5-2 Made easy work of rival Cal, playing with a chip on its shoulder after the controversial loss to Notre Dame last week.

22. Boise St. 6-1 Have yet to be truly tested after the opening loss to Michigan St., but continue to win, as they usually do.

23. NC St. 5-2 Hasn't gotten much attention, but a top 10 victory over the Noles a few weeks back warrants their spot here.

24. Wisconsin 6-2 Hey the Big Ten has 2 eligible teams in the top 25 now!!!

25. Ohio 7-0 Not dominant in their wins, but hey, even in the MAC 7-0 should be ranked.

  1. Jeeze your teams are showing up this year...if anyone woulda had Florida in their top ten to start the year I would have looked at them with a very dirty look.

I hope its Oregon vs. Bama in the ship. There the two best teams in college football hands down. Speed vs. Power, it would be a game for the ages.
